Alan,
Since you’ll likely be doing an update to at least one script every few months (and emailing everyone about the update) I think the thing to do is leave the default downloads to 3. This encourages people to pay attention to where they save their valuable paid-for content.
Then when you do an update, they all get the latest download added to their product list with a fresh clean new 3 downloads.
And if anyone manages to forget where they put their script package, all they ever need to do is ping you.
In ten years of selling downloads, I have only had a handful ask for an extension on the downloads.
